About Almacal	English (USA)
We are pleased to announce that Jeff Mangum has been appointed to lead the effort of the Calibration Working Group of the Science IPT. Calibration is one of the key issues for ALMA, with an agressive goal in absolute precision. Jeff will coordinate the numerous activities on-going within ALMA in North America, Europe and keeping active contact with Japan. Calibration has many aspects, including - antenna pointing and focus - antenna beam pattern - baseline stability and determination - Atmospheric modelling and transparencies - receiver phase and amplitude stability - polarisation properties - Calibrator sources - Backend frequency response - Water vapor radiometry - Observing strategies - etc... and interacts with all aspects of ALMA. We expect Jeff to help all the experts in these areas to join their effort in defining the ALMA calibration hardware and methods. Subscribing to Almacal
