Dear Trolltech folks -- Hi again:
Re: [Issue N134061] dock area won't give back space:
I've noticed a similar issue (102107) has hit your 'top 10 bugs' list, for
which I am grateful. I wanted to be sure you had one more bit of
information about it.
Through (laborious) trial-and-error, I did finally hit upon a combination
that caused a dock area to give back space (I went home that weekend with
the sense of a minor victory). Consider the case of two dock widgets,
restrict them for simplicity to the bottom dock area, stack them vertically,
and consider only vertical sizing at the moment. If the dockWidgets
themselves (and (all?) their child-contents) have 'Fixed' vertical size
policies, them undocking one of them (or hiding some of its
vertically-stacked contents) _did_ cause the dock area to shrink to fit only
the remaining contents....
But... only in Qt-4.1.3. It _no longer works_ in the new Qt-4.2.0 release!
)-;
Thus I have taken something of a step back again; the fix I thought I had
for this problem has mostly evaporated. I may want to stick with version
4.1.3 for now, and hope the next minor release will bring quick relief (I
rely on aspirin in the meantime :-).
I believe the description above should allow you to create a test program,
but I'd be glad to provide another one if you'd like me to.
Thanks for all your help.
