Title: Senior Systems Administrator
Description:
Darden Solutions is seeking a SAGE level III/IV
systems administrator to support the development,
installation, configuration, and maintenance of their
J2EE applications deployed at Darden and various
client sites. The ideal candidate will be experienced
in maintaining complex, multi-tier J2EE applications
and able to oversee a broad variety of processes and
services.
Darden Solutions is an operating group within the
Darden Graduate School of Business Administration at
the University of Virginia. Darden Solutions mission
is to provide best-in-class student information
systems and consulting services to the Higher
Education industry. Darden Solutions develops,
markets, and maintains a suite of student information
systems consisting of four modules including
Admissions, Career Services, Registration, and Alumni
Directory Services. In addition to the Darden School
and the University of Virginia, Darden Solutions
provides software and services to 15 of the top 30
business schools in the country.
Major Duties:
+Maintain all aspects of development, staging, demo,
and load test environments, including IIS and Apache
webservers, JRun application servers.
+Maintain servers and services used for J2EE
development (CVS, Cruise Control, Tomcat, Postfix,
MySQL)
+Coordinate with and support peers at client sites in
deploying and debugging application installations in
production.
+Coordinate continuous integration (Cruise Control)
and configuration management/build processes to ensure
reliable and repeatable builds are tested and
delivered to customers. Maintain and enhance Ant
scripts to further automate build processes.
+Assist in developing and executing load test scripts;
monitor and tune servers as required.
+Write scripts and utilities to automate systems
administration duties.
+Maintain monitoring system for all servers and client
installations (Nagios)
+Coordinate with DBA and provide backup DBA
responsibilities for SQL Server.
+Major applications/OSs include: JRun, WebLogic,
IIS5/6, Apache, Imail, SQL Server, ant, cvs, postfix,
tomcat, BigIP LTM, Cruise control, Soffront, MySQL,
Grinder, Windows 2000/2003, Redhat Enterprise
Linux/Fedora.
Requirements:
+BA/BS in Computer Science or related experience.
+3-5 years systems administration experience;
experience in a software development organization
would be ideal.
+3+ years Windows systems administration experience
(including Windows 2000, 2003, IIS 5/6)
+1+ years Linux systems administration experience
+2+ years J2EE application server administration
experience (JRun, Weblogic, or Websphere)
Familiarity with open source software and frameworks
+Experience with systems and application tuning for
performance under load; ability to design scalable and
affordable deployment environments.
+Ability to work independently to diagnose and fix
complex systems issues
+Ability to enhance deployment architecture and
industry best practices for scaling J2EE systems.
+Ability to communicate clearly with coworkers and
customers; serve as the guru for all systems
deployment issues.
