[iaufwg] FITS conventions topics

Dear IAU-FWG members,

The public comment period on the "Tiled Image Compression" convention is 
now well expired (it started 15 November 2006) with no significant 
comments or objections having been raised.

The IAUFWG now has a final opportunity to raise any objections before 
this convention is officially added to the "approved" section of the 
FITS Registry of conventions (see the web page at 
http://fits.gsfc.nasa.gov/fits_registry.html).  If you have any 
technical comments about this convention, please post them on the 
FITSBITS email list.  Otherwise, any procedural or policy issues 
regarding the approval of this convention should be posted here on the 
IAUFWG email list.


Here is an update on a couple other FITS conventions topics:

- We are still waiting on a revised draft of the FOREIGN convention 
document.  Once it is available, it will be posted on FITSBITS for 
further public comment.

-  I'm in the process of assembling a queue of the next 10 - 20 FITS 
conventions that are ready to be submitted to the Registry.   I hope to 
be able to start the public comment period on a new convention at about 
2-week intervals.  If we can manage this pace, then we may be able to 
get more than 20 conventions entered into the registry within the next 
year.  If you have suggestions on conventions that should be added to 
this queue, please let me know.
