Hi Bill,
 I agree with your summary and concur with Clive Page in that it, at this
stage, is better to avoid any significant changes e.g. adding a 'date' format
type would be good but it's too late for this version.  Also a change log
would be nice but take too much work now.  The new draft is so much better
than the previous one that we should not delay its release with a new round 
of discussions.
